Geek Squad coming to SL
Best Buy Co. Inc. plans to open Geek Squad Island, a spot in “Second Life” where its Geek Squad technical support workers will offer free computer advice.The virtual world will have regular office hours (6 p.m. to 3 a.m. EDT, seven days a week). The online characters will wear white, short-sleeve button-down shirts, black pants and, of course, a badge.
SLI bring news that Geek Squad are taking up residence in SL. Looking forward to seeing what they can deliver on Geek Squad Island. I am surprised that Michael Dell has not taken the opportunity to experiment with customer support delivered inworld. Dell certainly have the facilities inworld and a knowledgeable SL representative in Laura Thomas RL / Pyrrha Dell SL to make it happen.
Customer services are one of many great Virtual World diamonds of opportunities lying in the rough waiting to be discovered. Until organizations experiment more within Virtual Worlds articles such as Victor Keegan’s piece in todays Guardian will rightly continue to question the viability of SL and Virtual Worlds. And that is a good thing.
