New Residents Round Up
Catching up on the ever growing number of new organizations taking up residence in SL of late the following caught my eye. Telstra’s ISP division Big Pond opened its 11 sims to much fanfare with some well known Australian icons such as the Sydney Opera house and Uluru represented. It was bound to have generated some good natured banter getting launched ahead of ABC who hold their official opening on March 19th (pictorial preview here).
Also from down under Cattle Puppy Productions announced that Second Life Cable Network successfully completed their pilot broadcast joining Ray TV and a host of other new entrants setting out to reinvent TV. The Weather Channel finally took the covers off its much anticipated Weather Island with extreme mountain biking, skiing and surfing on offer (intro video here).
Sony Ericsson reproduced their cebit booth as the center piece of their island (video above) while Saxo Bank launched with an inworld weekly trading game concept. Both Sony Ericsson and Saxo Bank islands center heavily around interfacing with their 2D website properties. It will be interesting to see how each of the above new arrivals builds on their initial offerings.
