New residents for Virtual Worlds
Lots of conversations this morning about yesterdays BBC announcement to create a Virtual World for its CBBC communities of 7-12 year olds. Virtual Worlds such as the SL Teen Grid, There and Virtual Laguna Beach are already firmly established for teenage communities worldwide. CBBC’s initiative follows in the pioneering footsteps of Belgium’s national broadcaster VRT whose KetnetKick platform developed by Larian Studio’s the BBC have licensed.
This initiative is very much in tune with the aspirations of generation We parents as outlined in Stefanie Olsen’s recent post. Generation X’s desire to share an always on, open and connected world with their children from an early age is going to have far reaching consequences for the world as we know it.
Also good to see SL on the program in Davos this week. While most of the interviewees have already experienced SL firsthand, the majority of Davos attendees will be getting their first opportunity to tune into Virtual Worlds. SL Davos coverage is available here compliments of Reuters. Well done to Adam at Reuters and ESC for making this happen. All of the above ensures a raft of new communities will be taking up residence within Virtual Worlds in the very near future.
