SL - Metaversity for Third Wave
Catching up on some reading and podcasts the term metaversity registered. The term is derived from the words metaverse and university. As someone who has always been a big believer in the university of life it seems entirely appropriate to refer to SL as the metaversity for the Third Wave of the Internet.
Two educational related pieces which are highly recommended reading are Jeremy Kemp’s paper titled the who, where, when and how of SL as a teaching tool and Linda Zimmer’s excellent post on The MacArthur Series on Digital Media and Learning. Looking at the ever increasing number of SL listings for RL institutions and organizations it is good to see members of the academic community playing on the frontiers of the Third Wave.
As Bob Browns piece today sharing Charles Berman of Fidelity Labs thoughts on experimentation within SL shows the number of organizations surfing the Third Wave is not just confined to academia. Interesting times indeed.
